Happy Birthday Sellwood

Sunday 17th of February 2013

Did you know that Sellwood was incorporated as a city 124 years ago on February 25th? Frankly, we had no idea that Sellwood was having a birthday much less celebrating 124 years! Congrats Sellwood you don't look a year over 100.

Let's Party!!!

Monday 14th of January 2013

We were crossing our fingers about a BIG PARTY during the moving of the Sellwood Bridge on Saturday, January 19th. When are any of us going to see this kind of event happen again? Never!

Wishes do come true because the Sellwood Westmoreland Business Alliance is putting on the Party of 2013! The festivities begin 11am at the Old Pioneer Church on SE Spokane with free refreshments provided by New Seasons Market Sellwood. You can walk down to Sellwood Waterfront Park for a great view of the bridge moving.

Be sure to get one of the free "I Was Moved! Sellwood Bridge 2013" buttons. They will be a very hot item to own.

See you all at the party!

This is a Great Idea!!!

Monday 7th of January 2013

The Mayor just received this email regarding the closure of the Sellwood Bridge. We think is a FANTASTIC IDEA. Heather is one sharp cookie. Thanks Heather!

Dear Neighbors,

A few of us down here south of Tacoma were talking the other day about how the upcoming Bridge Closure is a great opportunity to shop local! It will be a bit quieter around here and our local businesses need our support more than usual. Take advantage of the relative quiet to walk, bike or drive to local shops, services and restaurants.

-shop for groceries right here in Sellwood and Westmoreland
-get a jump on shopping for birthday/valentine/other gifts on your list in the coming months
-check out that new or old shop you've wondered about but not gone into before
-schedule a breakfast, lunch or dinner with family or friends
-head to yoga/pilates/fitness classes or seek wellness therapies
-what else can you think of to make it local?!

Some stores will have sales/specials, and a few will be closing or taking the week to do repairs and remodels. Sellwood-Westmoreland Business Alliance is going to set up tents and serve coffee and treats at the Sellwood River Front Park for the Big Move on Sat Jan 19th.

Please spread the word, mark your calendars, and let's celebrate our vibrant neighborhood!

Cheers,
Heather

Shouldn't We Have A Party?

Thursday 3rd of January 2013

The Mayor thinks that we should throw a huge party for the moving of the Sellwood Bridge. When in our live time will be ever see this kind of thing again? This is a HUGE deal and we need to make it an event. The bridge move is tentatively scheduled for January 19th. We think that has something to do with the weather.

Put on your thinking caps and let us know what you think. Why don't you email The Mayor of Sellwood Westmoreland with some suggestions for this party. You can reach us at info@sellwoodwestmoreland.com

Let's Party!!!!

Decemberville Comes This Saturday

Thursday 29th of November 2012

As the Mayor of the fine neighborhoods of Westmoreland and Sellwood, I declare that Saturday, December 1st to be Decemberville for the entire day.

The whole day will be packed with fun and exciting events, sales and pure holiday fun. For an idea of what is in store during Decemberville just scroll down the homepage and take a look.

Here is just a sampling....FREE Holiday Movie, Wreck It Ralph at the Moreland Theatre at 11am, FREE treats and hot cider will be served at many of the neighborhood businesses, Dancing With Joy will be dancing on the street corner of SE Bybee & Milwaukie, Tilde, Collage, Columbia Sportswear, Farmhouse Antiques, Camp Hollyhock & Stars Antiques Malls will be having sales events. The list goes on and on.

This year, Decemberville Ambassadors will be roaming both Sellwood and Westmoreland. They are the official information centers of what and where all the fun will be.

Plan to spend the entire day. Decemberville will only be here for one day. Don't miss it.

The Monsters Arrive On Sunday!!!

Saturday 27th of October 2012

Tomorrow literally thousand of monsters, witches, goblins and just about anything you can name will be marching in the Westmoreland Monster March. Thousand of kids and their parents in their Halloween costumes will march down the center of Westmoreland on SE Milwaukie Ave along with the Sellwood Middle School Marching band and our local fire men with their fire truck.

The Mayor will definitely be there to cheer on all of the great costumes. Hope you can make it too.

Hollywood Loves Our Neighborhoods

Thursday 11th of October 2012

Grimm is back shooting another episode in Sellwood today. The episode that used the TrueValue Hardware in Westmoreland aired last week. The Mayor has been told that one of the show's characters lives in Sellwood (on the show)

There was a star sighting on Monday at Stars Antiques Malls. Diane Keaton was spotted shopping there. She wore her signature hat and sun glasses. She was in town for a speaking engagement at PSU according to our source. And they reported that she was very nice.

Welcome to Our Neighborhood

Saturday 8th of September 2012

There has been quite a bit of activity in the neighborhoods in the last month or so. In Sellwood, Oodles 4 Kids has opened at 7727 SE 13th Avenue.

Up on the corner of SE Tacoma & 13th Avenue, OnPoint Community Credit Union opens on Monday, September 10th.

In Westmoreland, they are working feverishly on the Laurelwood Brewhouse next to the Moreland Theater. Just down the street at 7110 SE Millwaukie Ave is Snap Fitness.

They are suppose to be open next week.

The Mayor loves to see new businesses coming into the neighborhoods. Welcome!!!!

Grimm Update

Wednesday 1st of August 2012

The Mayor has just heard that NBC Network newest television show, "Grimm" will be shooting on Monday, August 6th at the Westmoreland True Value Hardware on SE Milwaukie Ave in Westmoreland. The production team will be shooting from approximately 7am to 2pm. There will be two scenes that they will be filming both inside the store and outside as well. Of course True Value will be closed all day for this shoot and a lot of parking will be blocked off around the store. We have been told that there will be some traffic delays on Milwaukie Ave from 10am to Noon.

Remember that you heard it here first.

Bits & Pieces

Friday 27th of July 2012

The Mayor has been hearing some interesting things about activity in the neighborhoods. In Westmoreland they have started the remodeling of the space for Laurelwood Brewing. The windows are gone and the glass garage doors are being installed. We haven't heard an opening date on this newcomer to the neighborhood but when we do, you will hear about it right here.

Snap Fitness has be feverishly working on their new home in Westmoreland right next to the Masonic Temple.

And in Sellwood, the signs are finally up to confirm what we have been hearing for months and months. On Point Credit Union is moving into the building on the corner of SE Tacoma and 13th. For years we have not had any banks in Sellwood. Now we have three!

This just in. We have been informed that the NBC TV program Grimm will be shooting at the TrueValue Hardware sometime in the next week. We should have more details on this very soon.

Who said The Mayor doesn't know what is happening around these neighborhoods? We have you covered.
